Social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has issued a public apology to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for alleging that committee members demanded money from ministerial nominees in exchange for approval following their vetting.
During his appearance before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, Mr. Barker-Vormawor clarified that his comments were never meant to tarnish the reputation of the committee or any of its members.
“I want to make it clear that my post was not meant to disparage any member of the committee. I did not intend to imply that committee members received or demanded bribes from any individual. For this reason, I apologise,” he stated.
The activist’s appearance follows his claims, which have sparked a heated debate on social media and drawn strong denials from the Appointments Committee.
Mr Barker-Vormawor alleged that members of the committee solicited bribes from nominees seeking approval, a claim that has been refuted by the committee’s leadership.
