Mahama Launches 24-Hour Economy Policy, Signals New Phase in Ghana’s Economic Transformation

President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy policy, a flagship initiative intended to drive significant economic change. The ceremony, held in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, marks the transition from campaign promise to active implementation, with the goal of expanding opportunities and enhancing national productivity.

“Today, we move from slogan to strategy,” President Mahama stated, recalling how the concept of a 24-hour economy captured national attention during the 2024 elections as a symbol of hope and the possibility of change.

He clarified that the policy is not simply about longer working hours but about introducing structured interventions to unlock Ghana’s economic potential. “The 24+ Agenda is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through well-structured and inclusive measures,” he explained.

Describing the launch as the start of a “massive national mobilisation,” President Mahama emphasized that the focus will now be on achieving results, creating impact, and delivering tangible benefits for all citizens.

The 24-Hour Economy policy, a key promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will be implemented across sectors including agro-processing, manufacturing, transport, health, and digital services. The initiative aims to tackle unemployment, improve service delivery, and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness on the global stage.
