Staff of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) have expressed strong confidence in the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Frank Asirifi Otchere, following his appointment by the Board on May 8, 2026.
The staff say they are optimistic about the future of the company under his leadership and have pledged their full support to help improve operations and drive the growth of GRIDCO.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Spyder Newspaper, the National Chairman of the GRIDCO Senior Staff Association, Wisdom Kojo Adenyo, described the new CEO as a dedicated and experienced professional who rose through the ranks of the organization.
“So far, so good. This is someone from within GRIDCO. He is a homegrown person, and his dedication to duty is very high, with strong support from staff,” he stated.
According to him, Ing. Otchere’s deep understanding of the company’s operations makes him well-positioned to lead the power transmission company.
“Basically, his interest is in the job, and we know he is capable. He has served as a manager, a director, and an acting deputy chief before now being appointed as the CEO of GRIDCO. He is one of our own from within the organization,” he noted.
Mr. Adenyo stressed that staff members are fully prepared to work with the new leadership to achieve the strategic objectives set by government and the Board.
“We have pledged our support to him. We are fully behind him and will support him in delivering whatever the President, the Minister, and the Board have tasked him to do for the country. We, the staff group, are solidly behind him and will support him to the maximum,” he said.
Touching on the expectations of staff, the union chairman called for the modernization of equipment and improved working conditions.
“Our expectation, basically, is for him to lead the staff effectively and also procure modern options to replace obsolete equipment in the system that may be creating problems, so we can do away with them,” he explained.
He added that staff also expect better remuneration and enhanced welfare packages in recognition of their hard work and commitment.
“As staff, we also do not joke with our remuneration. While we work harder, we expect improved conditions and better remuneration for ourselves. We also want to ensure that GRIDCO rises to the top,” he emphasized.
Mr. Adenyo further indicated that the staff envision a globally competitive GRIDCO capable of meeting the growing aspirations of Ghanaians through expansion and efficient service delivery.
“The organization should compete globally. Expansion should come to meet the aspirations of Ghanaians. That is basically what we expect from him. He should provide strong leadership,” he stated.
He also commended the President, the Minister, and the Board for appointing leaders from within the institution, describing the move as recognition of the competence and experience available in the company.
“We are thankful to the President, the Minister, and the Board. Ghanaians should also have high expectations because we will deliver, having been given a new CEO,” he added.
In the same announcement, Ing. Samuel Nkansah was confirmed as the Deputy Chief Executive (Finance & Resources), while Ing. Samed Abdul Ibrahim, Director of the Project Implementation Unit, was appointed Acting Deputy Chief Executive (Engineering & Operations).
