President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, has arrived in Ghana to participate in the Next Steps Conference on Reparatory Justice, a high-level gathering aimed at advancing discussions and action on reparatory justice across Africa and the global community.
The São Toméan leader was received upon arrival at the Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
President Vila Nova is among the keynote speakers expected to address the conference, which is being hosted in Accra by Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama. The event is expected to convene African leaders, policymakers, academics, and experts to deliberate on the pursuit of reparatory justice and identify practical measures to advance the agenda.
The Next Steps Conference seeks to build on growing international conversations surrounding historical injustices, including slavery, colonialism, and their enduring socio-economic consequences. Participants are expected to explore policy options and collaborative approaches aimed at securing meaningful reparative outcomes for affected communities and nations.
President Vila Nova’s participation highlights the increasing commitment of African nations to shaping the global reparatory justice discourse. His presence also underscores São Tomé and Príncipe’s support for collective continental efforts to advance dialogue, strengthen advocacy, and develop concrete policy directions on the issue.
The conference is expected to produce recommendations that will contribute to ongoing regional and international initiatives focused on achieving justice, accountability, and equitable development for African countries and peoples impacted by historical injustices.
