AshGold supporters storm GFA Congress to beg to be reinstated

Some supporters of Ashanti Gold have appealed to the Ghana Football Association to reinstate their club in the Ghana Premier League.

Obuasi Ashanti Gold was demoted from the Ghana Premier League to Division Two after an investigation revealed that handlers of the club were gambling their games away.

The GFA in its decision said “Ashantigold SC will be demoted to the Division Two League after being found Guilty of Match Manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Matchday 34 game against Inter Allies FC.

The decision takes effect from the 2022/23 league season.

Officials of the Club and Players who participated in the above-mentioned match have also been sanctioned by the Disciplinary Committee”.

The decision has since been challenged in court to no avail.

But at the Ghanaman soccer centre of Excellence, where the Ghana Football Association is currently holding their congress, some supporters have pleaded with the FA to reconsider their decision and reinstate them.

The supporters wielding placards with inscriptions indicating that they are sorry were seen wailing.

They shouted “these are supporters of AshGold. We are sorry. Banning our team has had a toll on us. Some of us were employed because of the club and since they are out of the league, we have not been able to secure jobs. Please reinstate us”.
