Ato Forson addresses Parliament on  Tax Exemptions , COCOBOD and others

Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson, has described the NPP Majority’s demand for various tax exemptions as fast-track and railroad tax giveaways to their crony businesses.

Addressing Parliament at am extraordinary sitting, Mr. Ato Forson reiterated the Minority’s longstanding position against these tax exemptions, arguing they are not in the best interest of taxpayers and should only be granted as tax credits or linked to equity shares as stipulated in the Tax Exemptions Act.

He emphasized that Ghana’s struggling economy, high cost of living, and unemployment are the real issues that should concern the government.

The Minority Leader also raised concerns about COCOBOD being shut out from international borrowing, which has crippled the cocoa sector.

“The current cocoa price and exchange rate, COCOBOD must pay cocoa farmers at least GHS6,000 per bag to ensure they benefit from their hard work.” He stated.

Mr. Ato Forson further expressed doubts about the integrity of Ghana’s Voter Register, citing irregularities admitted by the Electoral Commission. He demanded a forensic audit of the Voter Register database before the upcoming elections.

He emphasized that the decisions made in Parliament should be people-centered and focused on addressing the country’s crises, including the cost-of-living, state of the economy, and unemployment. He urged the House to put Ghana first in all its deliberations.
