Member of Parliament for Asokwa and Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei has attributed the rising unemployment rate in Ghana to the government’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
In an interview with Oyerepa TV on August 12, 2024, Appiagyei explained that the policy has led to an increase in the number of young people graduating from secondary school, many of whom are struggling to find employment.
Appiagyei acknowledged the government’s efforts to address the issue through various social and agricultural interventions, as well as skills training programs aimed at equipping the youth with livelihood skills.
However, she lamented that many Ghanaians are not taking advantage of these opportunities. She urged the youth to consider alternative employment avenues, such as farming, rather than solely relying on white-collar jobs.
