Launderer granted GH¢800,000 bail over visa and job fraud

Two Brothers’ Dispute Ends in Tragedy

A misunderstanding between two brothers escalated into a fatal shooting in Dodi-Papase. The incident occurred when Amuzu visited his brother’s house to resolve their dispute.

The suspect, still enraged, allegedly shot Amuzu with a single-barrel gun without provocation. Amuzu was rushed to St. Mary Theresa Catholic Hospital but succumbed to his injuries last Friday.

Superintendent of Police Frank Nana Asomaning confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect has been remanded in police custody pending further investigations. This marks the second murder in the area within a week, following the killing of a 60-year-old farmer by a mentally challenged man on August 12.

Launderer Charged with Defrauding 18 People

Mosley Anderson Klopa, a 35-year-old launderer, appeared before the Accra Circuit Court on charges of defrauding 18 individuals of GH¢227,500 and $23,250. Klopa allegedly promised jobs at various institutions and visas for employment in Canada and the US, but failed to deliver.

Klopa, who pleaded not guilty to 18 counts of defrauding by false pretence, was granted GH¢800,000 bail with two sureties. The court ordered him to deposit his passport and adjourned the case to September 23, 2024. The prosecution urged strict bail conditions to ensure Klopa’s appearance at trial, while his defense argued he was not a flight risk due to his family ties and employment within the court’s jurisdiction.
