Mahama Nominates Ashanti Regional GMA President as KATH CEO

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, as the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

If approved, the President of the Ashanti Regional chapter of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) will replace Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah who was appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2022.

This was contained in a letter by the secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, to the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh dated April 30, 2025.

“Kindly take steps to regularize the said appointment in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and Teaching Hospitals Act 1996 (ACT 525) as amended,” the letter further directed.

Dr Addai Mensah was last week relieved of this duty as KATH CEO.

He is expected to hold a presser today to officially bid farewell to staff of the hospital and hand over to the incoming CEO today.

Prof Addai Mensah, immediately after his assumption of the role three years ago beseeched the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, about the deplorable state of the medical facility and sought his assistance in renovating it for the first time since its construction over 70 years ago.

The project has since been ongoing with the help of funds mobilized from the general public.
