The Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will explore other available options to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register ahead of Electio
Speaking in Accra at a street protest organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday [September 17, 2024] as part of moves to mount pressure on the EC to allow an independent forensic audit of the register, Dr. Ato Forson said although Parliament was currently on recess, the NDC would ensure the House reconvenes to deliberate on the matter if it has to, in order for the forensic audit to be done.
“We believe that the voter’s register must be audited. The level of tampering we’ve observed so far makes it impossible to proceed without a proper review. This audit will help us understand the extent of the issue and fix the system. If we have to recall Parliament then we will,” he said.
He also urged the EC to take swift and transparent action to ensure a peaceful and credible election.e went on to cite specific issues in his constituency, highlighting significant irregularities: “In my own constituency, we’ve uncovered the addition of about 3,000 names in the transfer register and several instances of multiple names. In total, the register has been bloated by roughly 5,000 names. This raises serious concerns and we need Parliament to intervene.
”The NDC on Tuesday embarked on the street protest across all the 16 regional capitals to drum home their concerns about the said discrepancies in the voters’ register.
