Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah Buah has sharply criticized President Akufo-Addo’s administration, describing it as a “timely reminder of how not to govern a country.”
His comments came during a response to the President’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), where he emphasized that Ghanaians have already rendered their verdict on the government’s performance, particularly regarding economic hardship, high debt levels, and soaring unemployment rates.
“Mr. President, let me remind His Excellency, honorable speaker, that his tenure in office will remain a timely reminder of how not to govern the country,” Armah Buah stated.
He further asserted that the electorate’s decision on December 7, 2024, reflected widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration, citing “economic hardship, huge debt overhang, high youth unemployment, [and] hopelessness.”
Armah Buah characterized the Akufo-Addo government as “the worst government under the Fourth Republic,” noting that the recent elections showcased an overwhelming rejection of its policies and performance. He remarked that this administration would be remembered as the first to rely on support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from its inception to its conclusion.
Additionally, he reminded President Akufo-Addo of his unfulfilled promise to build a national cathedral, stating, “But Mr. President, I will leave that for you, between you and your God.”
Despite his criticisms of the current government, Armah Buah expressed optimism for the future under President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He assured Ghanaians that their hopes would be restored and that together they would work to reclaim Ghana’s status as “the black star of Africa.”
