The Ayawaso East Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have dismissed a communiqué from the Parliamentary Caucus calling for the annulment of last Saturday’s parliamentary primary. The executives described the demand as moot, an insult to their intelligence, and a direct affront to democratic principles.
In an interview with Channel One TV, Musah Ali, the NDC Communication Officer for Ayawaso East, argued that the caucus is needlessly intruding into constituency affairs.
He pointed out that the caucus members were not present during the polls and therefore lack any factual basis to allege vote-buying. He further noted that since the national NDC leadership has already established a committee to investigate the claims, the caucus has no business demanding a cancellation.
“The parliamentary caucus, their communiqué is moot. It is moot because, none of them was on the ground. I challenge any parliamentarian to come and tell us as Constituency Executive who were on the ground that he or she was on the ground and that this is what he or she had seen or observed. They were not here.
They were sleeping in them air-conditions in their various constituencies. At the end of the day, they want to decide for us and impose a candidate on us. No. It doesn’t work that way,” Musah Ali stated.
The executives maintained that Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed emerged as the most popular and deserving winner. They firmly denied superintending over any form of vote-buying during the process.
The controversy follows viral videos alleging bribery during the election, which prompted NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey to announce a formal investigation. Despite this internal process, the Parliamentary Caucus, led by Mahama Ayariga, issued a separate statement calling for the immediate annulment of the results and the disqualification of the involved candidates.
The Constituency Executives remain resolute, reiterating that the caucus’s interference is both baseless and insulting to the local electoral process.
