Cervical Cancer: Telecel Ghana Foundation Donates Major Equipment To Health Facilities

Telecel Ghana Foundation has donated state-of-the-art cervical cancer screening equipment to three major health facilities across the country. The beneficiary institutions include the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern Region, and the Sefwi Wiawso Hospital in the North West Region.

The donation, facilitated through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, is strategically designed to tackle the high mortality rates associated with cervical cancer by prioritizing the speed and accuracy of initial screenings.

Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, lauded the Foundation’s commitment to public health during the handover. She emphasized that providing hospitals with these specialized tools is critical to ensuring women receive timely diagnoses, which remains the most effective way to improve survival rates through early medical intervention.

“This gesture by Telecel Ghana Foundation is a vital step in our mission to improve maternal health outcomes. Early diagnosis is the best defense we have against cervical cancer,” she noted.

By distributing this equipment across the southern, northern, and western corridors of the country, the initiative significantly increases accessibility for women who might otherwise lack local screening options.

This geographical spread ensures that specialized care is not concentrated solely in the capital, thereby strengthening the capacity of regional and teaching hospitals to manage oncology cases more effectively. The initiative serves as a vital bridge between public health needs and private sector support, moving the needle on national maternal health goals.
