Citizen-Led Collation App introduced for Enhanced Election transparency

Ghanaian IT firm Wigal Vision Ltd has launched a citizen-driven digital platform named iCollate to facilitate public participation in the collation of polling station results. This initiative aims to empower Ghanaians to actively monitor and compile electoral results, thereby enhancing the integrity of the electoral process.

iCollate allows users to upload polling station results and submit photographic and video evidence. The app also provides real-time updates nationwide, making it a crucial tool for citizens during the election period.

It is accessible via the Google Play Store, Apple Store, and through the website iCollate.app, as well as via shortcode *800*2024# for those without smartphones.

The introduction of iCollate comes at a pivotal moment in Ghana’s democratic journey, offering a transparent and inclusive method for citizens to hold the electoral process accountable. The Project Lead for iCollate emphasized the app’s role in ensuring that “elections are not only about casting votes but also about ensuring every vote is accounted for.” The platform is designed to enable citizens to take an active role in safeguarding democracy and promoting transparency.

Importantly, iCollate operates independently and does not aim to declare election winners or interfere with the responsibilities of the Electoral Commission (EC). Rather, it serves as a supplementary tool for collating polling station results.

This initiative underscores the transformative potential of technology in fostering democratic accountability. By enabling voters to independently record polling station results, iCollate contributes to a credible and participatory electoral process—by the people, for the people.

The media is encouraged to utilize the iCollate App as a valuable resource for real-time updates on election results from polling stations across Ghana. Journalists can access reliable data and visual evidence submitted directly by citizens, enhancing their coverage of the electoral process. Furthermore, media outlets are urged to promote the app among the public to maximize its reach and impact, thereby playing a crucial role in fostering transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.
