Four Arrested in North-East Region for Fatal “Witchcraft” Lynching

Police in the North-East Region have apprehended four individuals in connection with the fatal lynching of a 70-year-old woman accused of witchcraft. The victim, identified as Noab Bilatukin, a resident of Sangbana village near Bunkpurugu, was reportedly killed on July 10.

The suspects initially fled the scene after the incident but were later arrested at various hideouts in Bunkpurugu on July 14. Those in police custody have been identified as Suuk Jakwa, 67, Banyiwoo Ntookwib, 32, Moapya Kwayaja, 30, and Amos Nlaji, 29. Authorities indicate that other individuals involved in the incident are currently at large.

“The suspects are being interrogated and will be put before the court after investigation,” police stated in a recent press release.

Law enforcement officials took the opportunity to condemn such acts strongly, urging the public to refrain from accusing elderly individuals of witchcraft and subjecting them to violent attacks. Police vowed to prosecute all perpetrators involved in such heinous crimes.
