Infrastructure Deficit Worsens at Paga Hospital as Agenda 111 Project Stalls

The Kassena-Nankana West District Hospital, widely known as Paga Hospital, is grappling with a worsening infrastructure deficit, prompting an urgent appeal from its management for intervention and the swift completion of the stalled Agenda 111 hospital project. The project, initiated by the previous government, remains incomplete, significantly hindering the hospital’s capacity for effective healthcare delivery.

Dr. Didier Oteng, the Medical Superintendent of Paga Hospital, highlighted the critical challenges during a donation event by the Sigibunga Nimoro Modam Pepper Sellers Association on Friday, July 25, 2025. “It is true that we have a lot of challenges with our infrastructure. The wards are not up to standard, and it’s affecting our service delivery,” Dr. Oteng stated, emphasizing the dire need for essential facilities such as adequate wards and a functional theatre.

Despite these significant hurdles, Dr. Oteng proudly noted the hospital’s resilience and commendable performance. “The hospital is doing whatever it can, no matter the challenges that we are having. We were upgraded in 2020 from a health centre to a hospital, and from 2022 up to date, we have been leading the region as the best primary hospital for the past three years,” he affirmed.

The Medical Superintendent issued a passionate plea to stakeholders, urging them to amplify calls for the current Mahama administration to resume and finalize the construction of the Agenda 111 district hospital. According to Dr. Oteng, the project was approximately 85 percent complete when the NPP government exited power.

“We are very grateful for the Agenda 111. We thought it could have been completed before now, but then hope is not lost. We are praying that the negotiation will continue. Our chiefs and opinion leaders should continue to help us so that we can complete it as early as possible,” Dr. Oteng appealed.

He underscored the transformative impact the completed Agenda 111 project would have on the facility, boosting staff morale and efficiency, and ultimately enhancing healthcare services for the entire Kassena-Nankana West District.
