Filmmaker and content creator Jeffery Nortey has shared his views on a negative trend in the Ghanaian skit-making industry. Speaking on GhanaWeb’s X Space on August 29, 2025, with hosts Joseph Henry Mensah and Isaac Dadzie, Nortey explained that Ghanaians tend to support content creators mainly out of pity rather than genuine interest. He said, “A lot of people like to watch from the angle of poverty. There is this pitness in it, so they like to watch your content more.”
Nortey added that once Ghanaians realize a skitmaker is financially better off, they lose interest in their content. This behavior makes it difficult for content creators to openly share their achievements in the comedy industry. “Immediately, to make them know you have made it, they will be like they don’t want to watch your content, so you get money. I have met people who will tell me that they are the ones giving me money on YouTube. So they like to watch videos from Facebook,” he said.
He also noted a cultural attitude where Ghanaians tend to support foreigners more than their own local creatives, which harms the growth of the domestic creative industry.
Aside from these remarks, Jeffery Nortey and Big Ghun are set to premiere their collaborative film, “Vibes the Movie,” on October 4, 2025, at Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall. The film will feature notable figures including Aaron Adatsi, Clemento Suarez, and Krymi.
