Mahama Urges Creative Industry to Honour Agya Koo Nimo While Alive

President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghana’s creative industry to celebrate and honour Agya Koo Nimo, the renowned king of Palm Wine Music, while he is still alive.

Speaking at the Black Star Experience launch in Accra on May 1, 2025, President Mahama emphasized the importance of recognizing legends during their lifetimes rather than waiting until their passing.

“He shouldn’t die before we go and cry at his funeral,” President Mahama stated, urging industry stakeholders to give Agya Koo Nimo the recognition he deserves.

The Black Star Experience, launched at the Freedom and Justice Monument at Black Star Square, is a flagship initiative aimed at boosting Ghana’s tourism, culture, and creative arts industries. The programme seeks to reaffirm Ghanaian identity, attract investment, and create new opportunities for the creative sector.

President Mahama’s remarks highlight a broader call for the nation to appreciate its cultural icons and ensure their contributions are acknowledged and celebrated in their lifetimes.
