Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has donated GHS50,000 to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Cancer Foundation. This gesture aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by cancer patients among teachers and their families.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed her concern over the alarming rise in cancer cases among teachers, noting that the cost of treatment is often beyond the reach of many patients. She emphasized the importance of supporting the GNAT Cancer Foundation’s efforts to provide care for affected teachers.
“Given our common humanity, and more especially as an educationist, I responded positively to the appeal for funds by the GNAT Cancer Foundation,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated. She took the opportunity to urge corporate bodies and individuals to contribute to the foundation and support teachers battling cancer.
The former Minister of Education also encouraged everyone to donate, regardless of the amount, to make a collective impact. She seized the occasion to highlight some of the NDC’s key education policies in their 2024 manifesto, aimed at addressing the challenges faced by teachers, students, and the education sector as a whole.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the current challenges in the education sector but expressed optimism that Ghanaians have an opportunity to vote for change on December 7 by supporting the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and the party’s parliamentary candidates. She emphasized the importance of working together to build the Ghana we all desire.
The GNAT Cancer Foundation, launched in June 2024, is dedicated to improving cancer care for GNAT members and their families through awareness creation, treatment, management, and resource mobilization. The foundation’s efforts aim to provide vital support to teachers who shape the nation’s future.
