The Peasant Farmers Association has expressed strong disapproval of the government’s recent ban on the export of key grains, including maize, rice, and soybean. This decision, announced by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, aims to ensure food security amid a devastating dry spell affecting agricultural production in eight regions.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on August 26, the President of the Peasant Farmers Association, Bismark Owusu Nortey, criticized the government for making the decision without consulting key stakeholders. He emphasized that farmers should have been involved in the decision-making process to contribute to finding a lasting solution.
Nortey argued that the ban, while intended to secure the country’s food supply, overlooks the critical input and expertise of the farmers who are directly impacted by such policies.
