In a landmark event that underscores the government’s commitment to advancing education in Ghana, President Nana Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Silver Jubilee Building at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale.
This three-storey complex, which houses lecture halls and offices, is more than just a structure; it symbolizes a shared vision for a brighter future and a dedication to providing quality education for all.
During the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo expressed his pride in fulfilling the promise he made in 2018 during UDS’s 25th-anniversary celebration. “I am proud to have fulfilled the promise I made in 2018, ensuring that this institution continues to thrive as a hub for innovation and intellectual growth,” he stated.
The president emphasized that education remains a cornerstone of his government’s agenda. “We have invested heavily in this sector because we recognize that it is the most powerful tool to transform our nation,” he noted.
Highlighting the impact of the No Guarantor Policy, he added, “This policy has significantly improved access to tertiary education, removing financial barriers and opening doors for countless young Ghanaians.”
President Akufo-Addo also pointed out the government’s substantial support for research and academic development, reflecting a belief in the power of knowledge to drive national progress. “Our support for research and academic development is a testament to our belief in the power of knowledge to drive national progress,” he said.
As the nation celebrates this achievement, the president urged all universities in Ghana to strengthen their ties with industry and government. “I urge all universities to ensure that their research and teaching align with our nation’s development goals. Together, we are building a brighter future for Ghana,” he concluded. “With continued investment in education, we can unleash the full potential of our young people and propel our country to greater heights.”
