President Mahama Thanks Ghanaians for Support After Helicopter Crash

The President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, along with the government, have extended their heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ghana and the international community for their immense support following the tragic helicopter crash on August 6 that claimed eight lives.

In a statement released on August 18, the presidency acknowledged the overwhelming solidarity and kindness shown to the bereaved families. The President also expressed appreciation to a wide range of groups and individuals, including chiefs, clergy, civil society, the diplomatic community, political leaders, security chiefs, and service personnel who played vital roles during this difficult time.

Special thanks were given to those who worked tirelessly to ensure a dignified state funeral and burial for the victims. The government noted that the farewell honored the memory of the deceased while also reflecting the deep compassion of the Ghanaian people.

With the conclusion of the funeral rites, the Chief of Staff has directed that flags at all public buildings be restored to full mast. This decision was made in recognition of the nation’s collective grief and respect for the fallen.

“As we return to the duties of #ResettingGhana and building the Ghana we want, let us remain united in prayer, comfort one another, and continue to support the families affected by this tragedy,” the statement concluded.
