The Speaker of Parliament inaugurates the Northern Caucus of the Ninth Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially inaugurated the Northern Caucus of Ghana’s Ninth Parliament, underscoring its critical role in driving development in the northern regions.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Speaker highlighted that the Caucus will design a strategic roadmap focusing on key intervention areas including the provision of quality healthcare, road infrastructure, rural electrification, water and sanitation, agricultural modernization, industrialization, and the preservation of the unique cultural heritage of the North.

Mr. Bagbin expressed optimism that the Northern Caucus would serve as a vital platform to strengthen collaboration between Parliament and relevant Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), civil society organizations (CSOs), traditional leadership, and international development partners. He emphasized that such partnerships are essential to effectively channel development initiatives and resources to the people of the northern regions.

The establishment of the Northern Caucus is seen as a strategic move to ensure that the specific developmental needs of the North are addressed through focused legislative advocacy and coordinated efforts. It aims to bridge gaps in service delivery and promote sustainable growth in a region that has historically faced socio-economic challenges.

The Speaker’s remarks come as the Ninth Parliament continues to settle into its mandate following its inauguration on January 7, 2025, with a renewed commitment to inclusive development across all regions of Ghana.
