Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has donated 12 brand-new computers and 50 white canes to the University of Ghana’s Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy. This contribution is set to significantly enhance the educational opportunities and welfare of students with special needs.
The donation was made during a ceremony held at the university, where Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of inclusivity and support for students with disabilities. “Education is a fundamental right, and it is our duty to ensure that all students, regardless of their physical abilities, have access to the resources they need to succeed,” he stated.
The Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy at the University of Ghana plays a crucial role in supporting students with disabilities, providing them with the necessary tools and resources to thrive academically. The addition of the new computers will facilitate better access to digital learning materials, while the white canes will aid visually impaired students in navigating the campus more independently.
Dr. Bawumia’s donation underscores the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and ensuring that no student is left behind. The Vice President also called on other stakeholders to support initiatives that enhance the learning environment for students with special needs.
The Director of the Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy, Dr. Sarah Mensah, expressed her gratitude for the donation, noting that it would have a profound impact on the students’ academic experiences. “This generous contribution will go a long way in improving the quality of education and independence of our students. We are deeply grateful to Vice President Bawumia for his support,” she said.
As the Centre continues to advocate for the rights and needs of students with disabilities, this donation marks a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive educational environment at the University of Ghana.
