Adamorobe Residents Petition Authorities, Picket Over Delayed Road Rehabilitation

Residents of Adamorobe in the Akuapem South District of the Eastern Region have petitioned government agencies and staged a peaceful picketing exercise to demand the immediate rehabilitation of the deteriorating Adamorobe road linking Aburi and Oyibi.

The petition, presented on June 1, 2026, was directed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly, and other relevant stakeholders. The action was accompanied by a peaceful demonstration involving residents, commercial drivers, traders, and commuters who say they have endured months of hardship due to the poor state of the road.

According to the petition, community members first submitted a formal appeal on January 9, 2026, to the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South and the Municipal Chief Executive, requesting urgent intervention. However, despite assurances from authorities, residents say no rehabilitation work has commenced.

The petitioners lamented that the road’s worsening condition continues to disrupt transportation, commercial activities, healthcare access, and educational opportunities within the area.

“The poor condition of the road continues to affect transportation, business activities, access to healthcare, education, and the general well-being of the people,” the petition stated.

Residents explained that the road becomes particularly difficult to use during the rainy season, often leaving sections nearly impassable and exposing motorists and commuters to increased risks of accidents while deepening economic challenges for local businesses.

The community also recalled assurances given by the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South during a thank-you tour held on September 18, 2025, alongside National Democratic Congress National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia. During the event, the MP reportedly announced that rehabilitation of the Adamorobe road had been captured under the government’s “Big Push Agenda” after President John Dramani Mahama had responded to concerns raised by residents.

However, residents argue that several months after the announcement, no visible work has been undertaken on the road.

In their latest appeal, the people of Adamorobe called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Feeder Roads, the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, and other stakeholders to prioritize the project and commence rehabilitation works without further delay.

The petitioners warned that if no action is taken, the community will continue to organize peaceful protest actions every six months until the road is fully rehabilitated and made motorable.

The petition was signed by concerned residents and citizens of Adamorobe. Among the signatories was Pastor Eric Sakyi, Chief Executive Officer of Zion Obotantim Radio Station.

Organizers described the picketing exercise as a lawful and democratic means of expressing their frustration over the prolonged delay while drawing national attention to what they describe as a critical infrastructure challenge affecting the community’s development and daily life.
