A grieving husband has accused the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, of negligence and unprofessional conduct following the death of his wife, Theresa Boakye Dua, during a medical ordeal linked to a scheduled Caesarean section.
Daniel Ofori Asante made the allegations in an emotional social media post ahead of the burial of his wife on Friday, August 28, 2026, just 19 months after the couple got married.
According to Mr Ofori Asante, Theresa had entrusted Ridge Hospital with her care but died after what he described as a “horrific ordeal” that began on July 16, 2026.
He alleged that failures within the healthcare system and decisions made by medical personnel involved in his wife’s care contributed to her death.
The circumstances, he said, have left their newborn son without his mother and plunged both families into profound grief.
“Our baby boy has been robbed of the unconditional love of a devoted mother,” Mr Ofori Asante said.
He also described the impact of Theresa’s death on her mother, saying it was particularly painful to watch her cope with the loss of her only child.
Mr Ofori Asante further recalled the unexpected return of his father-in-law to Ghana. He said he had picked him up from the airport about two weeks earlier after he returned home ahead of schedule.
According to him, the family had seen his father-in-law off in January with the expectation that he would return to Ghana in 2027.
“He wasn’t scheduled to return to Ghana until 2027 yet here he is, brought home early by blatant negligence and unprofessionalism at the very highest level,” he alleged.
Describing his late wife as a gentle, peaceful and unproblematic person, Mr Ofori Asante accused those responsible for her care of making what he called reckless decisions that contributed to her death.
The tragedy has affected Theresa’s relatives, colleagues at the Ministry of Health, members of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Covenant Temple, as well as friends and other loved ones.
Mr Ofori Asante said the burial would not mark the end of his efforts to establish what happened to his wife.
He promised to make further revelations after laying Theresa to rest, alleging that the circumstances surrounding her death involved “unprofessionalism, manipulation and extortion.”
“After I honor my wife today Friday 28th August, 2026, the full truth will be told,” he said.
While acknowledging that exposing the circumstances would not bring his wife back, Mr Ofori Asante said he was determined to pursue answers in the hope that other pregnant women and their families would not experience a similar ordeal.
As he prepared to bury his wife, he described Theresa as his “best friend, my soulmate, and the love of my life.”
“I love you endlessly, T. Da yie, me dɔfo pa,” he wrote.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and Ridge Hospital has not, in the material available, publicly responded to the claims. Any response from the hospital or relevant authorities would provide further context to the circumstances surrounding Theresa’s death.
