Dr. Oscar Ugoh, a prominent Nigerian figure in Ghana’s political landscape, has received a nomination for an award from the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) Africa. This organization operates as a pan-continental branch of NIDCOM, an institution established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to support its citizens living abroad and to mobilize their resources for national development. In addition to his nomination, Dr. Ugoh will also be inducted into the Africa Hall of Fame.
The nomination is a result of recommendations from the NIDO Ghana chapter, where Dr. Ugoh has significantly contributed as a senior executive. His efforts have been instrumental in restructuring and revitalizing the chapter, aiming to enhance the reputation of Nigeria and foster socio-economic growth both in Nigeria and Ghana, which hosts the largest Nigerian community outside Nigeria.
Dr. Ugoh is not only a lawyer and businessman but also a publisher and politician with advanced degrees in conflict resolution, peace, and security. He has been based in Ghana since 1998 and has published influential media outlets such as BusinessWeek newspaper and Corporate Guardian magazine for over two decades. His recent initiatives include reorganizing the NIDO Ghana chapter under directives from NIDO Africa’s secretariat in Abuja.
The official notification regarding his nomination was signed by NIDO Africa’s Continental Chairman, Professor Jude Osakwe, along with Chief Emmanuel Turner and Reverend Dr. Ebenezer Alabi, who lead the Hall of Fame Awards organizing committee. The letter emphasized that this accolade reflects Dr. Ugoh’s dedication and the respect he has earned from his peers in the diaspora.
The letter also noted that receiving this award entails significant responsibilities, highlighting Dr. Ugoh’s role as an inspiration and leader for future generations. The award ceremony and Hall of Fame induction are scheduled for December 20, 2024, at the Raw Material Research Council in Maitama, Abuja.
As part of the recognition, Dr. Ugoh’s name will be inscribed on marble at a national institution in Nigeria and featured on NIDO Africa’s digital platforms as well as in three national newspapers, celebrating his contributions to society. Dr. Ugoh has accepted his nomination with enthusiasm.
In addition to his current accolades, Dr. Ugoh serves as Vice President for West Africa of the Pan African Business Forum, an organization comprising entrepreneurs, investors, and public officials dedicated to supporting Africa’s socio-economic progress. His latest venture includes establishing Colloquium House, a West African public policy think tank modeled after London’s Chatham House.
