ACP Agordzo Lambasts IGP over poor leadership style

Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Agordzo has publicly criticized Ghana’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, accusing him of incompetence and creating divisions within the police force.

In an exclusive interview with Yen Nsempa on Onua TV, Agordzo described Dampare’s leadership as detrimental to the police organization, claiming it has led to significant disruptions and discontent among officers.

ACP Agordzo expressed his disappointment over what he perceives as a culture of favoritism and political interference that has emerged under Dampare’s tenure. “The institution I served for decades is now grappling with favoritism and political interference. It’s not the police service I knew,” he stated, highlighting the negative impact on morale among seasoned officers.

He further indicated that he is prepared to present detailed evidence to support his claims, but only in what he termed an “appropriate platform.” “This isn’t a personal vendetta; it’s about saving the integrity of the police service,” Agordzo emphasized, stirring anticipation for potential revelations regarding the IGP’s conduct.

ACP Agordzo also pointed out that Dampare’s leadership has fostered a rift between him and his deputies, which has trickled down to lower ranks. He criticized the promotion practices within the force, alleging that less experienced officers are being favored over those with years of dedicated service. “How can you expect commitment from the team when the leadership is this biased?” he asked, lamenting the erosion of meritocracy in promotions.

As discussions surrounding police leadership intensify, Agordzo’s remarks add to the growing scrutiny of IGP Dampare’s management style and its implications for the Ghana Police Service.
