Following his initial release, Paul Adom-Otchere has been recalled to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). The journalist and former Ghana Airports Company Board Chair was first released in the company of the Attorney General, Godfred Dame, and lawyers from Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co. The development was initially reported by Metro TV’s “Good Evening Ghana.”
The recall comes amid public scrutiny over the OSP’s bail conditions, which require suspects to present landed property. The OSP, Kissi Agyebeng, has publicly defended this practice, explaining that it serves as a legal safeguard. “If you do not have landed property, you cannot bail yourself. We proceed with the value of the property. Bring what you have,” he stated.
Agyebeng further clarified that the policy is not meant to be punitive but to ensure that suspects cooperate with the investigation. He explained that if a person were to flee, their property would be confiscated by the state, which incentivizes them to appear for questioning. The OSP also warned that those who fail to meet this condition forfeit their right to bail.
