Thomas Partey Granted Conditional Bail on Rape Charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, facing charges of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian international is accused of five counts of rape against two women and a charge of sexual assault against a third woman. The alleged offenses are reported to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his tenure with North London club Arsenal.

Partey was formally charged four days after his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June. He appeared in court wearing a black zip-neck jumper and black trousers, carrying a navy blazer. He stood with his arms behind his back in the dock, confirming his name and understanding of his bail conditions.

His bail conditions stipulate that he is prohibited from contacting any of the three alleged victims and must notify police of any permanent changes of address or international travel.

The charges stem from an investigation launched by detectives in February 2022, following an initial report of rape. Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, previously stated that her client “denies all the charges against him” and “welcomed the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

Partey is reportedly in discussions to join Spanish club Villarreal on a one-year contract, with an option for a further 12-month extension. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 2 at the Old Bailey.
