A joint operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Ghana Police Service has led to the arrest of 65 individuals suspected of involvement in cybercrime and online fraud across the country.
The coordinated arrests, conducted between May and July 2025, included 47 foreign nationals and 18 Ghanaian citizens. Targeted operations were carried out in several areas, including Sogakope, Dodowa’s Sassabi Ubuntu Estate, Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, and Teshie-Nungua.
During a joint press briefing, Mr. Divine Selase Agbeti, Acting Director-General of the CSA, disclosed that 23 of the 25 individuals apprehended in Dodowa were identified as victims of human trafficking and have since been repatriated. Similarly, 13 of the 16 suspects arrested in Bortianor are currently undergoing processing for repatriation.
Investigations are ongoing into 14 suspects detained in Teshie-Nungua, 13 of whom are foreign nationals. The sole Ghanaian suspect is also under investigation and will face prosecution if found guilty.
Mr. Agbeti further revealed that suspects apprehended in Sogakope and Sege were allegedly involved in impersonating Members of Parliament and government officials to defraud individuals with false promises of employment within the security services. A suspected ringleader was captured in Sege on June 1.
Authorities seized significant technological evidence during the Dodowa and Amanfro raids, including 62 laptops, 41 mobile phones, and Starlink internet devices, highlighting the sophisticated nature of these cybercrime rings.
“These actions are part of a larger national strategy to combat cybercrime, human trafficking, and associated offenses that undermine public safety and Ghana’s digital environment,” Mr. Agbeti stated. He emphasized the CSA and CID’s commitment to intensified, intelligence-driven operations nationwide, underscoring ongoing international collaboration, victim protection, and rigorous prosecution of offenders.
Mr. Agbeti encouraged the public to report any suspicious online activities through the CSA’s 24-hour hotline at [email protected].
Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the CID, also briefed the media on other ongoing investigations, including the murder of an immigration officer, a car robbery ring, and a robbery incident involving a taxi driver in Madina.
