Calls for Accountability After Adansi Helicopter Crash

Following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni is demanding a deeper look into the handling of the victims’ remains. He is calling on the official investigative committee to hold individuals accountable for the reported use of cocoa sacks to transport the bodies.

Azure Awuni’s comments were made in a social media post shortly after President Akufo-Addo announced that the Ghana Armed Forces would be conducting a full-scale investigation into the accident. The journalist emphasized that the inquiry must go beyond determining the cause of the crash and also address the “negligence” that led to the victims’ bodies being moved by civilians in such a disrespectful manner.

In his post, Azure Awuni stated, “I’m not sure if the investigative findings will bring any closure, but one angle that should be included in the investigation is whose negligence allowed the bodies to be carried in cocoa sacks by ordinary folks. (If those reports are, indeed, true. I still struggle to believe it happened.)”

He further questioned whether community members moved the bodies before officials arrived. If government and security officials were present at the scene during this time, he argued, they should be held accountable. Azure Awuni described the act as “barbarity” and a “dangerous indiscretion,” stating that such carelessness not only dishonors the deceased but also “dents our status as sensible human beings.”
