The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has celebrated Mohammed Anchala for pioneering the first successful cocoa cultivation in Nanumba North, marking a landmark achievement that has captivated the entire cocoa sector. This pioneering success reflects a significant milestone in expanding cocoa production into new regions, showcasing innovation and dedication.
The Deputy Chief Executive for Agronomy & Quality Control, Dr. Francis Baah, led a delegation of COCOBOD scientists on a visit to Anchala’s groundbreaking cocoa farm, which spans two acres at Jahinfo Ya in Bimbilla, Northern Region. Their tour emphasized COCOBOD’s commitment to supporting promising farmers and advancing cocoa agriculture across Ghana.
At the visit, Dr. Baah announced that Mohammed Anchala will receive the prestigious Best Innovation Farmer Award at the upcoming 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho. This recognition celebrates his historic contribution to cocoa cultivation and highlights the potential of northern Ghana as a cocoa-producing area.
To support future productivity, Dr. Baah assured that COCOBOD will assign extension officers to work closely with Anchala, providing expertise on Productivity Enhancement Programmes (PEPs) and Good Agronomic Practices (GAPs). These measures aim to increase yield and ensure the long-term sustainability of his farm.
In appreciation of his hard work and dedication, the delegation presented Anchala with cartons of premium cocoa products and a cash prize. Mohammed Anchala’s pioneering efforts have already borne fruit, with the harvest of three bags of cocoa during the 2024/2025 crop season. He is optimistic about further increases in production for the 2025/2026 season, promising sustained growth in the sector.
