Ing. Alfred Kumah Brown, a leading contender for the Agotime-Ziope Constituency Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a strong entry into the race, combining his campaign for the position with a pledge to provide logistical support to all 15 wards in the constituency.
Ing. Brown officially picked his nomination forms to contest the chairmanship position and has subsequently begun the distribution of motorbikes to the wards, describing the initiative as part of his commitment to strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, he presented the first batch of two motorbikes, with additional deliveries expected in October.
Under the initiative, each of the 15 wards is expected to receive a motorbike to improve mobility, support grassroots mobilisation and enhance the ability of ward executives to organise party activities across their respective areas.
The move comes against the backdrop of longstanding concerns among branch and ward executives over inadequate logistics and resources to effectively mobilise party members and coordinate activities at the grassroots.
Supporters of Ing. Brown say the initiative demonstrates a practical approach to addressing one of the major challenges confronting the constituency’s party structures.
Beyond mobilisation, the motorbikes are also expected to serve as income-generating assets for the wards. The campaign says the motorcycles can be used for commercial transport activities, including Okada operations, with proceeds helping to finance ward meetings and other party activities while creating employment opportunities for young people.
The initiative, according to the Brown campaign, is consistent with President John Dramani Mahama’s policy direction on commercial motorcycle operations and youth employment.
Campaign officials have consequently described the programme as an “investment, not a donation”, arguing that it is designed to enable the wards to generate their own resources rather than remain dependent on periodic financial support.
The development has also generated positive reactions among some delegates and party supporters, with campaign insiders arguing that Ing. Brown is demonstrating his leadership approach even before assuming office.
They contend that effective grassroots politics requires more than campaign promises, particularly ahead of the 2028 general elections, and that providing the necessary logistics could strengthen the party’s presence in communities across the constituency.
Ing. Brown, an engineer and grassroots organiser who is also described by his campaign as a longstanding financier of party activities, is presenting his bid around the principle of resourcing the grassroots rather than exercising authority over them.
The Brown campaign said the motorbike initiative forms part of a broader vision to strengthen ward structures, improve mobilisation and create sustainable sources of income for the party at the grassroots.
“Ultimately, this generous gesture by Ing. Alfred Brown is more than just a donation; it is a direct investment in job creation, grassroots mobilisation, and a decisive victory in the 2028 elections,” the campaign stated.
With the chairmanship contest expected to intensify in the coming weeks, the early focus on logistics and grassroots organisation could become a significant feature of the race.
For Ing. Brown and his supporters, the message is clear: the campaign is seeking to position him as a candidate whose leadership philosophy is centred on action, resourcing and grassroots empowerment rather than promises alone.
