A businessman in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, has appealed to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to intervene in a marital dispute involving his wife and an immigration officer he has identified as Geoffrey Brown Anani.
The husband alleges that the officer had an intimate relationship with his wife at their matrimonial home, a situation he says has caused him considerable emotional distress and placed his marriage under severe strain.
Speaking in a telephone interview, the businessman expressed frustration over the alleged relationship, claiming that the situation had affected his psychological well-being and left him struggling to come to terms with what he described as a painful experience.
According to him, his wife has indicated that the officer was her former boyfriend. He is therefore calling on the Immigration Service to look into the matter, hoping that its intervention could help resolve the dispute and restore peace in his marriage.
The husband’s appeal raises broader questions about marital trust, personal relationships and the expectations surrounding the conduct of public officers.

Although an alleged consensual relationship between adults does not, in itself, establish criminal wrongdoing or professional misconduct, the circumstances surrounding the complaint may warrant clarification if a formal grievance is submitted to the relevant authorities.
For the husband, however, the immediate concern is the effect of the alleged relationship on his marriage and emotional well-being. He says he wants the matter addressed in the hope of resolving the conflict and rebuilding peace within his family.
The Ghana Immigration Service is responsible for maintaining appropriate standards of conduct among its personnel. Any complaint concerning an officer should, however, be assessed fairly, based on credible evidence and the applicable service regulations, while respecting the rights of all parties involved.
An investigation, if deemed necessary, would provide an opportunity to establish the facts and determine whether any professional rules or standards have been breached. The officer concerned should also be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations.

Efforts to obtain a response from Geoffrey Brown Anani, the officer named by the husband, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. His response to the allegations was therefore not available.
