Ayra Starr Officially Relocates to New York City

Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has confirmed her official relocation to New York City in the United States.

In an interview on Hot 93.7FM’s Buck N Regg, the 23-year-old artist revealed she moved to New York less than two months ago but has always felt connected to the city. She shared, “I do live in New York. I moved in officially less than two months ago. I am always in New York regardless.”

Ayra Starr explained that New York’s vibrant Nigerian and African diaspora communities remind her of her hometown Lagos, which makes the city feel like home. She said, “New York reminds me so much of Lagos. There are a lot of Nigerians. There is a huge African diaspora here. So it feels like home.”

Initially skeptical about the move, a moment on stage made her realize that New York was the right place for her. She recalled, “I was skeptical about moving to New York. I remember just being on stage and feeling like I might actually move here. It feels like a moment of sunder… I love it. I know my priorities. I know why I am here. And I am here for a good time.”

Still settling in, Ayra Starr joked about furniture shopping and shared she currently has just a couch, a bed, and a grand piano to start with. Rising to fame with her 2021 hit ‘Bloody Samaritan,’ she is signed to Mavin Records after being discovered by Don Jazzy, who admired her originality.
