EOCO Confirms Seizure of Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini Urus

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed the seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from the home of Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, also known as Shatta Wale. This action was a result of an ongoing investigation that began with a 2023 request from the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department.

According to a press release from EOCO’s Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the vehicle was identified as a “proceed of crime” belonging to Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States for various financial crimes. Shatta Wale reportedly asked the EOCO officers not to publicize the seizure, as he was concerned it would damage his brand if his supporters saw the vehicle being taken away. He was then allowed to surrender the vehicle himself.

EOCO stated that its officers from the Surveillance And Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) were professional and civil during the operation, and it is standard protocol for them to carry weapons for their safety. The agency has also identified Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) as “persons of interest” in the investigation and plans to invite them for further assistance. This statement from EOCO came after Shatta Wale publicly complained on social media, accusing the agency of an “unprovoked armed raid” and criticizing its leadership.
