Ghana’s judiciary is set for a significant enhancement today, Thursday, July 3, as seven newly appointed Supreme Court Justices will officially take their oaths of office at a ceremony held at the Jubilee House.
Presided over by President John Dramani Mahama, this event marks a pivotal moment for the nation’s highest court, strengthening its capacity during a crucial phase in Ghana’s legal and democratic evolution.
The new appointments, made by Article 144 of the 1992 Constitution, were confirmed by Parliament after a comprehensive vetting process earlier this year. Most of the appointees have previously served on the Court of Appeal, bringing extensive legal expertise and experience to the Supreme Court bench.
This swearing-in comes at a time when the Supreme Court faces increasing demands, with a docket that includes constitutional challenges, electoral petitions, and complex civil and criminal cases. The addition of these seven distinguished jurists is expected to improve the court’s efficiency and further the cause of justice in Ghana. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
Their collective experience and expertise are anticipated to make a lasting impact on the nation’s judicial system.
