Ghanaian music star Black Sherif delivered another historic moment in his fast-rising career after emerging as the Artiste of the Year at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
The “Iron Boy” hit-maker, popularly known as Blacko, once again ascended to the pinnacle of Ghana’s music industry after first winning the coveted title in 2023 during the 24th edition of the awards.
Held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, the event turned into a triumphant night for the Konongo-born sensation, whose dominance across several categories proved unmatched. Black Sherif beat strong competition from industry heavyweights including Medikal, Stonebwoy, Wendy Shay, Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton to claim the night’s highest honour.
Beyond the top award, Black Sherif swept four additional trophies, including Album/EP of the Year for Iron Boy, Songwriter of the Year for Sacrifice, Best Hiphop Song for Where Dem Boys, and Best Afropop Song for Sacrifice.
The multiple award wins further cement his transformation from a viral breakout act into one of Africa’s most influential contemporary music stars.
Excitement filled the Grand Arena when his name was announced as Artiste of the Year. Clad in his trademark avant-garde fashion style, Black Sherif mounted the stage to dedicate the award to his loyal supporters and hometown community.
“This isn’t just for me; it’s for every kid in Konongo dreaming of a global stage. We worked for this, we stayed hungry, and we’re just getting started,” he told the cheering audience.

Other notable winners on the night included Medikal, who won Best Hiplife Song, Kofi Kinaata as Best Highlife Artiste, Diana Hamilton for Best Gospel Artiste, and Wendy Shay, who took home the Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste award.
