National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Aspirant, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has expressed confidence in his chances of winning the party’s December 19 national elections, despite concerns surrounding his prospects following his comments about party stalwart Sammy Gyamfi.
Mr Vanderpuye gave the assurance while monitoring constituency-level elections in the Greater Accra Region over the weekend, expressing optimism about the party’s electoral process and his own ambition to lead the NDC.
“First, let me thank God that so far we’ve had good weather all across. The regional congress will come on the 14th of November, and then, on the 19th of December, we will have the national elections, which I believe I will emerge as the National Chairman,” he said.
He acknowledged that disagreements were inevitable in a large political organisation but maintained that such differences would not undermine the party’s preparations for the national elections.
“As a human society, you may have one or two misunderstandings at certain places, but it does not change anything at all,” he stated.
According to him, the misunderstandings that arose during the constituency-level elections had been resolved, and he was pleased with the overall conduct of the exercises.
Mr Vanderpuye also expressed hope that the remaining electoral processes would be completed peacefully, urging both winners and losers to accept the outcomes and work together towards the party’s success.
“My only hope is that nothing will happen, and then we shall end this successfully. Winners and losers shall all celebrate together and then unite to build a better NDC for the 2028 election,” he said.
His confidence comes amid discussions about his chances in the National Chairmanship race following his comments concerning Sammy Gyamfi.
Global InfoAnalytics Executive Director Mussa Dankwah has also indicated that the National Chairmanship position currently appears favourable to Mr Vanderpuye in the NDC leadership contest.
The party is scheduled to hold its regional congresses on November 14, ahead of the national elections on December 19, as it prepares to elect leaders to steer its affairs towards the 2028 general elections.
Mr Vanderpuye is seeking to secure the influential National Chairman position and says he is confident that delegates will give him the mandate to lead the party.
