Mahama Appoints Meredith Addy as Ghana’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy as Ghana’s Permanent Delegate (Ambassador) to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The appointment, made under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, positions Ms. Addy as the head of Ghana’s permanent delegation at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris.

The Ghana Commission for UNESCO announced the appointment via Facebook on July 8, 2025, extending a warm welcome: “A hearty congratulations to H.E. Mrs. Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy on your appointment as Ghana’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. We bid you welcome to the Commission!”

Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy brings a diverse background to her new diplomatic role. She is the daughter of the late David Lamptey, a prominent business mogul and financier of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who previously served as Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency in 1996.

In 2023, Ms. Addy contested the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Klottey Korle Constituency, though she was not successful in her bid against Dr. Zanetor Rawlings.

Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Ghana and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Professionally, Ms. Addy served as her father’s personal assistant at Sidalco Group of Companies, which encompassed Dominion Oil, Radio XYZ, and TV XYZ, during her national service from 2008 to 2009.

Her appointment is widely viewed as an acknowledgment of her commitment to party activities and her professional experience.
