GRA Interdicts Four Officers Over Seized Consignment, Donates Goods to School Feeding Programme

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has interdicted four of its officers over their alleged involvement in a seized consignment that is currently under investigation, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and safeguard government revenue.

Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong disclosed the development during a media briefing on Tuesday, July 7, stating that the affected officers have been removed from active duty pending the outcome of the Authority’s internal disciplinary processes.

According to Mr. Sarpong, the officers, who were directly involved in handling the seized consignment, will be subjected to thorough investigations, with any officer found culpable facing sanctions in accordance with the GRA’s internal regulations and the laws of Ghana.

“We have interdicted four officers who worked on the consignment, and we are going through our internal disciplinary processes to ensure that all officers found culpable are dealt with in accordance with our internal policies and the law,” he said.

The Commissioner-General also announced that the seized goods have been allocated to the National School Feeding Programme following a directive from the Ministry of Finance.

He explained that the decision ensures the confiscated items are put to productive public use while investigations continue.

Mr. Sarpong reaffirmed the GRA’s commitment to tightening customs controls and protecting state revenue, assuring importers, exporters and the general public that the Customs Division remains vigilant in monitoring cargo movements across the country’s borders.

He noted that the Authority has intensified compliance and enforcement measures at all entry points to combat illicit trade, prevent revenue leakages and ensure strict adherence to customs laws and regulations.

“The Authority will continue to strengthen enforcement mechanisms to prevent revenue leakages and ensure strict adherence to customs regulations,” he added.

The interdiction of the officers forms part of the GRA’s broader efforts to sanitise operations within its Customs Division, reinforce institutional integrity and enhance public confidence in the country’s revenue administration system.

The Authority maintained that it will continue to uphold transparency, accountability and professionalism while taking decisive action against any conduct that undermines its mandate to mobilise revenue for national development.
