Miracles Aboagye Breaks Silence After EOCO Detention, Vows to Lead NPP Communications Despite Arrest

Dennis Miracles Aboagye has broken his silence following his release from detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), declaring that he remains “unbroken” and more determined than ever to pursue his bid to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Communications Director.

In a strongly worded statement issued after his release, the former spokesperson for the NPP’s 2024 presidential campaign dismissed allegations surrounding his arrest and insisted that investigators never questioned him over the widely circulated claims involving an alleged GH¢55 million.

His comments come days after his arrest at the Accra International Airport, where reports emerged that he had been detained by EOCO in connection with allegations of stealing and misappropriation of public funds linked to his tenure as former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee (IMCC) on Illegal Mining. The arrest generated widespread political debate and sparked protests by some NPP supporters who described the action as politically motivated.

Addressing the controversy for the first time, Aboagye rejected what he described as misinformation surrounding his detention.

“I am out. I am unbroken. And I am more ready than ever,” he declared.

According to him, he was arrested just one day after announcing his intention to contest for the position of NPP National Communications Director, suggesting that the timing of the arrest has raised serious questions among party supporters.

He further stated that contrary to public reports, EOCO did not question him about any alleged GH¢55 million during his detention.

“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None,” he stressed.

Aboagye expressed gratitude to party supporters who protested during his detention, saying their solidarity strengthened his resolve.

“To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised their voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you. From my detention, word of your protests reached me, and it kept my spirit standing tall. You did not just defend Dennis Miracles Aboagye; you defended the principle that no voice can be intimidated into silence,” he stated.

He maintained that the detention had failed to intimidate him and instead reinforced his commitment to the party.

“Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly. I will lead the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that,” he said.

Describing the experience as one that has strengthened his resolve, Aboagye added, “Fuel has only been added to the fire.”

He also thanked his legal team, the NPP leadership and supporters who stood by him throughout the period of his detention.

“This journey is no longer mine alone. It is ours. We move. Stronger. Louder. Together,” he concluded.

EOCO is yet to publicly respond to Aboagye’s latest claims regarding the circumstances of his detention and his assertion that investigators did not question him over the alleged GH¢55 million. The agency has also not announced whether any formal charges will be brought against him.
